Documentation

Look at the documentation page for DVD playback HowTos and other information. In particular check out the wiki. It has more recent and extensive docs than are available on this page.

Performance Optimization

A good system and graphics performance is essential for DVD playback. To improve your graphics performance you should check these things

  • XFree86 4.0+ XFree86 has information and the sources of XFree86 4.0. You should look on the homepage of your Linux Distribution to get the latest XFree86 binaries. SuSE Linux uses XFree4.0 since their version 6.4, Redhat since version 7.0. Debian GNU/Linux has first XFree86 4.0 in their Woody development release.
  • Another important way to gain video performance in XFree86, is to activate MTRRs. You can find a description how to enable MTRRs in this document: mtrr.txt
  • linux.com tuneup has a really good up to date collection of tips how to improve your X11 performance.
