XAG - ounce (troy) of silver
XAU - ounce (troy) of gold
XPD - ounce (troy) of palladium
XPT - ounce (troy) of platinum

AGG, AUG, PDG, and PTG are marketing inventions that have no official or
generally recognized meaning among precious metals traders.

Currencies issued by international organizations -- like East Caribbean
Dollars, Crude Oil Barrels, and IMF Special Drawing Rights -- tend to have
codes that begin with X: XEC, XCO, XDR.

Silver, gold, palladium, and platinum -- which are quintessentially
international -- have codes that begin with X, which makes sense.
