I took the liberty to experiment a little with the icon. First I
smoothed the circle a little bit and then I put some text on it which is
surprisingly readable for its size. I don't know how to create .ico
files, but here are the .gif versions:

PS: What is the special function of the favicon.ico? Is it something
Gnome? Windows seems to understand the format so on that platform it can
be used as start menu icon for the webfunds client.
