There was, but I can't remember what it was.... I think
it was just a general cleanliness thing, but may be, as
you intimate, more trouble than it's worth (and if I can't
think of a good reason, then it ain't worth much...)

PS:  what was the eventual convention on writing to commits
list, is replying ok?  I recall some debate where it was
considered ungood in some sense, but didn't pay attention
as usual...
