Current status of VIA for
LINUX
- In order to be able to develop and test the driver software in parallel
with the hardware development we have written an
emulator of the
PCI-SCI-Bridge. It provides SCI shared memory facilities and the basic
VIA funcionality and is based on the TCP/IP protocol stack. The VI Kernel
Agent and the VIPL are working by means of the emulator.
- A second field of work is the development of the driver for the actual
hardware. It is already capable of managing the Address Translation and
Protection Tables, sending and receiving manual SCI packets. It runs on
IA32 and Alpha systems.
- Our current task is to replace the emulator by the real hardware driver
to use the PSB through VIPL.
- All driver parts have been ported to the 2.4 kernel and are SMP-safe.
