Tutorial on Convolutional Coding with Viterbi Decoding

There have been quite a few visitors to this tutorial (over 75,000 as of 31 January, 2002, page counter total since the counter was last reset), and the author's Internet Service Provider (ISP) has threatened several times to limit access.  (My wife just says I have to stop visiting here so often.)

To try to reduce the number of megabytes per month that are transferred from my ISP, I have structured the tutorial into five sections:

Introduction
Description of the Algorithms
Simulation Source Code Examples
Example Simulation Results
Bibliography and Links to Other FEC/ECC Sites

You can click on one of the links above to go directly to that section.  If you haven't visited before, you should start with the Introduction.

Please bookmark this page if you want to come back to the tutorial, and use the links above to access the section you want to (re)visit.

I have updated the Bibliography section several times since I first published the tutorial, but the Internet is a dynamic universe, and links go stale without notice.  Please let me know of any new and interesting things I should add there, as well as any sites you can't get to from the links I have provided.

I have also published a short paper on first-order digital loop filters for second-order digital PLLs.

Thank you for visiting, and I hope you enjoy the material and learn what you need from it.
